Resources and care

We endeavor to meet the needs of our church family, neighbours, and world as best we can.

Prioritized Care

While no person or one church can meet all the needs in the world, we do what we can with a humble heart and discerning mind. Scripture is clear that we are to be responsible for ourselves, take care of our family, then prioritize those in the church, and then those outside the church.

When someone needs help we do our best to evaluate the need and create a plan to help as best we can, but we typically come in after the following:

  • Family and/or close friends are designed by God to be our first line of support (but don’t worry, we understand that it’s often complicated and this is not an option for everyone).
  • Government and/or local agencies and organizations. We instruct our members to be honest and pay taxes which affords many social services and support through government ministries. We also support local agencies and organizations with finances and volunteers. We may refer you to one of these options and/or supplement these options.
  • We often request a meeting or phone call before providing any tangible help as we endeavour to be good stewards with what has been given to us and help in ways that are truly a help.

Common Needs

Our Pastors and/or Elders are available for personal prayer appointments (at the church or in your home or hospital room). They are also available every Sunday after the service for prayer. Finally, you can submit prayer requests for those on our Facebook Group and/or Prayer Email Chain to be praying with you or you can call the church office (604-820-0718).

We’ll do our best to help with physical needs like yard work, minor home maintenance, moving, etc. Usually, a Ministry Leader organizes a few volunteers to meet these kinds of needs. Please call the church office (604-820-0718) or fill out our Online Connect Card.

Our Pastors are available for pastoral care sessions, but they are not professional counselors. Pastor Tom does run a professional counseling practice out of his office in our church building. Subsidized counseling sessions are available as our budget allows. Find out more at https://stlc-bc.com/. Please call the church office (604-820-0718) or fill out our Online Connect Card if you’d like to first connect with a Pastor.

To receive financial support a meeting must be requested where a mature and safe person (i.e. Pastor, Elder, or approved Financial Mentor) evaluates the request and discerns the best way forward. We have helped people with electrical bills, rent, car repair, dental, groceries, etc. In addition to financial support, we often prescribe financial mentoring and/or referrals to other resources. Please call the church office (604-820-0718) or fill out our Online Connect Card.

Life can be lonely. We have people in our church family who are willing to come over and visit with you. Please call the church office (604-820-0718) or fill out our Online Connect Card.

Typically, we recommend attending an upcoming Discipleship Pathway class for most discipleship needs, but sometimes you might have a burning question or a unique situation. Please call the church office (604-820-0718) or fill out our Online Connect Card to book an appointment with a Pastor and/or Elder.

There are many other needs. Please book an appointment with a Pastor to discuss your needs. Please call the church office (604-820-0718) or fill out our Online Connect Card.
