A CALL TO CONTINUE

Date: September 10, 2017 Scripture: 1 Cor. 11:23a Speaker: Clint Nelson We exist to CONTINUE the ministry of Jesus in our homes, church, city and world. What does it mean to continue the ministry of Jesus? The second part of the sermon has to do with a unique idea for Parksiders to consider of whether or not we add a second Sunday morning service.

TRUE COMMUNION

Date: September 3, 2017 Scripture: 1 Cor. 11:17-34 Speaker: Clint Nelson Our love for Jesus can't be private because it shows in how we love others. Christ's love for us wasn't an internal event - it was public and physical, which makes communion a reminder of this - that we are to love others in the way Jesus loves us (public example and physical acts). Christians don't just say our vows, we live them. Communion is a sacred space to renew our vows. Therefore, we are to examine our fidelity, repent of our sin, and then solemnly, gratefully and joyfully partake in communion. We come out on the other side more in love with Jesus - He is the faithful spouse that forgives our infidelity and is always working towards a bright future together.

Becoming A Volunteer at Parkside

Volunteer "... Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." MATTHEW 5:16b (NIV) Why do we serve? Because God served us. Because God asks us to serve. Because we were created to serve. Because we love to serve. Because others see the love of Jesus when we serve in His name. Because it produces more love and life in this world. Because we become who God made us to be through serving. Because it bears eternal fruit and rewards. Because it helps us to build relationships with others. Because it gets our attention off of ourselves. Because it glorifies God. Finding your fit Every Parksider has a place to serve. THE POWER OF LOVE

Date: August 6, 2017 Scripture: 1 Cor. 9 Speaker: Clint Nelson When we’re in love the rest is just details. When we’re in love with Jesus the things of this world are just details. It was the love of Jesus and the love Paul had for Jesus that made things like marriage and a good career easy to give up. Paul’s words to the church in Corinth call to our attention the object of our affection.

GARY BAKER

A close relative of a Parksider has been involved in the fight of his life. Gary was playing soccer in Vernon when he suddenly passed out on the feild. He was flown from Kelowna to Vancouver where his family was told devastating news that he had suffered a major brain aneurysm. It has been a year living away from their home to be by his side and it has taken a huge toll on the family. Gary has a long and difficult road ahead of him and we would like to rally together to support him and his family. HOMOSEXUALITY

Date: July 16, 2017 Text: 1 Cor. 6:9-11 Speaker: Clint Nelson The Bible tells us that no one is born straight, yet through faith in Christ, we can let go of our broken lives in exchange for His righteousness.  To add to our brokenness, we have both the world and much of the church sending out the wrong message - that sex, marriage and family are the ultimate human experience, when they aren't. Oneness with God is the ultimate human experience. As we elevate certain human experiences, we elevate the horror of their perversion. Sexual sins become worse than gossip or materialism. Paul seeks for the church to be balanced - to see that the ultimate human experience is to be one with God; to see that all sins are equal yet uniquely damaging; and to see that [...]

RESOURCES ON HOMOSEXUALITY

In preparation for Sunday's message, here are some of the resources I found helpful: Is God Anti-Gay?: and other questions about homosexuality, the Bible and same-sex attraction by Sam Allberry "Updated and revised edition 2015 It's the hot topic of the moment. Christians, the church and the Bible seem to be out of step with modern attitudes towards homosexuality. And there is growing hostility towards those who hold a different view to the culture's. So is God homophobic? And how do we relate to both Christians and non-Christians who experience same-sex attraction? In this short, simple book, Sam Allberry wants to help confused Christians understand what God has said about these questions in the scriptures. Drawing on his own experience, he offers a positive and liberating way forward through the debate. This revised and updated version includes [...]
