Date: September 3, 2017 Scripture: 1 Cor. 11:17-34 Speaker: Clint Nelson Our love for Jesus can't be private because it shows in how we love others. Christ's love for us wasn't an internal event - it was public and physical, which makes communion a reminder of this - that we are to love others in the way Jesus loves us (public example and physical acts). Christians don't just say our vows, we live them. Communion is a sacred space to renew our vows. Therefore, we are to examine our fidelity, repent of our sin, and then solemnly, gratefully and joyfully partake in communion. We come out on the other side more in love with Jesus - He is the faithful spouse that forgives our infidelity and is always working towards a bright future together.

Because God asks us to serve. Because we were created to serve. Because we love to serve. Because others see the love of Jesus when we serve in His name. Because it produces more love and life in this world. Because we become who God made us to be through serving. Because it bears eternal fruit and rewards. It was the love of Jesus and the love Paul had for Jesus that made things like marriage and a good career easy to give up. Paul’s words to the church in Corinth call to our attention the object of our affection.
