GIVING

As a church, we take our cue from the Bible’s teaching that the first ten percent (a tithe) of everything we have belongs to God, and is to be given to Him to support the ministry of the temple/church (Deut 14:22-29; Malachi 3:8-10; Matthew 23:23). In truth, all that we have belongs to God — but he calls us to give the first ten percent explicitly over to Him and the ministry. Beyond that, God calls us to be good stewards of all we have, being generous to care for the needs of others.

We know that tithing isn’t an easy discipline. But we also know from experience that when we choose to walk in obedience and trust, we open ourselves up to experiencing the provision of our Father in Heaven. What God wants to provide for us and wants us to trust Him.

The question to ask is, “Will we trust Him?” We trust God with our sin and our future; but will we trust Him to care for our practical/daily needs? So much that we would tithe and be generous in caring for the needs of others? The core issue is not about having lots or having just enough — it’s an issue of trust.
